We are proud of the superior quality of our beeswax candles.
•Honey Candles® uses only premium quality cappings wax, the best grade of beeswax. This is the wax that the bees produce and use to seal the honeycomb when it is filled with honey. This wax is cleaner and has fewer impurities.
•Our wax comes from apiaries in northern Alberta. In northern latitudes, the growing season is short, and the days are long, producing a cleaner and brighter wax. This is because the wax is produced by the bees in a much shorter period of time, giving the bees less time to work with the wax. This reduces the naturally occurring impurities found in the wax.
•Once it is separated from the honey, our beeswax is rendered and filtered. This is the only process that the wax goes through, removing any impurities that might affect the proper combustion of our candles.
•When comparing our beeswax candles to other beeswax candles, use your senses...sight, smell, & touch. Top quality beeswax has the following characteristics:
- •The color is a rich yellow-amber. There is a richness and intensity to the color not found in lower wax grades. Poor quality wax can have a dirty or muddy appearance, and often has a strong green or gray-green cast, like putty.
•Pure beeswax looks pure…there are no particles of dirt or other impurities visible in the wax. There is a depth to the finish of the candle. There should not be flakes, cracks or white spots visible as you look beyond the surface of the candle.
•The wax is pleasant to touch. It is smooth and rich. If the candle feels too hard and smooth, a hardener may have been added to the wax.
•Pure beeswax has the rich, sweet smell of honey. Blended (beeswax and paraffin) candles won’t have this smell. If they do, the smell will usually be very faint or won’t smell right (i.e. sometime blended candles may smell like baby-powder.)
•Our Honey Candles® are all solid hand-poured wax, not rolled honeycomb. Because we use superior high-grade beeswax throughout our candles, there are no impurities to settle on the bottom and no need to over dip to cover cheaper wax.
•There are no holes or cavities in our candles that will affect the burn quality.
•Our wicks are top quality 100% cotton or cotton with a paper twist. They are pre-waxed for easy lighting. We do not use lead or zinc cores. We take care to trim each of our wicks.
•We will not compromise on quality. Renegade, imperfect candles are culled and re-melted.
•Our beeswax source is from organically managed beehives.
•Crop rotation is used as an environmentally friendly approach to eliminate the need for pesticide use.
•We provide detailed ‘shelf talkers’ with information on the benefits on Honey Candles®, candle care and burn times. It is great educational pamphlet.
•We stamp our round pillars with “100% Pure Beeswax”.
•Our beeswax candles are hand made in the Kootenay region of British Columbia, Canada, a region known for its natural beauty and pristine environment.
